Science Common Assessment
We just completed our second common assessment in Science this week. It will covered Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. Overall the students did AWESOME! I am very proud of their hard work! We are now working on our Hurricane Powerpoint projects. I am anxious to see their creative powerpoints.
Next week we will begin Chapter 5 and Topographic Maps.
MOVING ON IN MATH
Next week we will begin Chapter 6 in Math which covers Percents. This is a complex, somewhat difficult topic for many kids in 6th grade.
Remind 101- Text Msgs for Reminders
I will be using Remind 101 to send out classroom and schoolwide reminders. I will not be sending a daily reminder for homework however. If you would like to receive text messages about homework and class information follow the blue and/or red directions below.
Math Periods 3 & 5 --- Text the message @73h36a to the number 81010
Science Periods 4 & 6 -- Text the message @ck4e to the number 81010
Text messaging rates may apply, so students, check with your parents first :)
Students are required to write all homework assignments in their agendas so parents can also keep track by checking agendas. If a student is absent, they can check my Homework Agenda in class to see what they missed. They need to copy the agenda EVEN for days they were absent.
Parents and students can join our class's Remind 101 group to receive text messages regarding homework and upcoming activities.
Please take a look at the Parent Letter by clicking the link on the right side of this page! The address is below
We love Science!
In science, you will have a textbook and a workbook. We have lots of additional things we do in science as well like Cornell Notes and Chapter Outlines. Before the end of every chapter, we will give you a review crossword and you will use this to study for the chapter test. You will have 5 district assessments in Science as well.
Math, math, math
Our math series is by Carnegie Learning. The Textbook is a soft-cover 2 Volume set that will not be sent home all at once! Rather, we tear out 1 chapter at a time for students to use in class and at home for homework. Students will keep a very detailed Math Interactive Notebook (INB) with notes, sample problems, handouts, foldables, diagrams, vocabulary, etc. This INB will be graded about every 2 weeks. The textbook packet and their INB will be used daily in class. We will have district assessments 5 times a year and some quizzes and other tests as we go through the chapters.
Sixth Grade Math/Science Calendar
PLEASE have your student practice their multiplication facts regularly! Everything we do in Math is based of their knowledge of multiplication facts. The better they have their facts memorized, the easier new concepts will be to learn!
